Trends are constantly evolving. From bell bottoms in the \u201870\u2019s to fanny packs in the \u201880\u2019s, fashion is unpredictable. Why has the style of low-slung pants stayed around?<\/span><\/p>\n

For the past five years young men between the ages of 14 to 20 years old \u00a0could be seen wearing their pants low on their hips, according to www.Glamour.com.<\/span><\/p>\n

It ranges from boys wearing pants without a belt visibly to show \u00a0their boxers, to some boys wearing pants almost to their ankles.<\/span><\/p>\n

For \u00a016 year old Charles Stanley from the Bronx, sagging\u2019 pants is merely a fashion statement.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wear my pants low because it\u2019s just the style. I feel fresh, \u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to The Washington Times, \u201cSagging Pants May Carry A Greater Meaning.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the article Leonard Jahad, New Haven\u2019s top probation supervisor said \u201c The saggin trend started in prison where inmates couldn\u2019t wear belts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Urban Dictionary, sagging pants can also mean\u201cA prison thing that signified that you were another prisoner’s property. \u201c<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOutside prison wearing your pants low is just a style. It has nothing to do with homosexuality,\u201d said 17 year old Justin Herndon from Brooklyn.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some people continue to wear their pants low, but others don\u2019t feel comfortable with the style.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not wearing my pants low because being a Black man there’s already a negative connotation with Black men being dangerous. I know people would feel threatened by me if my pants were low,\u201dsaid Neil Crawford, 20, of the Bronx .<\/span><\/p>\n
